State of Play-deadline readiness: 80 native Android libraries measured for the 16 KB page-size requirement
Generated 2026-10-01 directly from the measured dataset (fixmap.json); every number and the chart on this page are computed at build time, not typed by hand. Full library list.
Google Play requires native .so files to support 16 KB memory pages. We downloaded the published artifacts for 80 native Android libraries and measured ELF alignment version by version. Today, 79% (63 of 80) have a measured aligned release; 11 still have no aligned release found in any measured version.
Breakdown
| Status | Libraries |
|---|---|
| Fixed: aligned release exists | 63 |
| No aligned release found | 11 |
| Native code removed in a newer release | 4 |
| Relocated to a new artifact | 2 |
Measurement scope
- 80 libraries carry native 64-bit code and were scored for 16 KB alignment (63 fixed, 11 no aligned release, 4 native code removed in a newer release, 2 relocated to a new artifact).
- 92 additional libraries were measured and carry no arm64-v8a/x86_64 native code in the sampled versions, so this requirement does not apply to them.
- 4 libraries were deliberately left unclaimed (listed below with why).
- Across the 80 scored libraries, 2065 of 6760 published versions were sampled for native-code alignment; 8 have a non-monotone release history (a higher version number does not guarantee alignment).
Deliberately not claimed
- Mapbox Maps / Navigation / Search SDK v10+ (com.mapbox.maps:android etc.): Served from Mapbox's private Maven (api.mapbox.com/downloads/v2) which needs a secret token; not on Maven Central/Google Maven, so not fetched. (Legacy com.mapbox.mapboxsdk:mapbox-android-sdk on Central IS measured.)
- Unity (editor + il2cpp/engine libs: libunity.so, libil2cpp.so): Shipped inside Unity Editor installs, not any public Maven repo; measuring needs installing editor versions.
- Media3 / ExoPlayer decoder extensions (decoder-av1/vp9/opus/flac/ffmpeg/iamf/midi): Not published as AARs; must be built from source with your own NDK (alignment depends on your NDK, r28+ aligns by default). media3-exoplayer itself measured: no native .so.
- React Native app builds (libreactnative.so, libhermes*.so): See measured react-android / hermes-android entries for the published AARs; app-level result also depends on AGP/NDK of the app.
The other deadline
Google also requires new apps/updates to target SDK 36, with an extension available to 2026-11-01 (Play Console help, checked 2026-10-01). The 16 KB page-size requirement above blocks updates to apps targeting API 35+ from 2027-02-01 (developer.android.com, checked 2026-10-01). This page measures 16 KB alignment only; we don't yet publish per-library targetSdk 36 guidance.
The paid kit ($12, v2.1) contains the complete measured fix map for all 80+ libraries as JSON and a table, every raw per-version measurement, the spot-check evidence, and the CI checker. This page and the checker script stay free.
